Charges not included because the current rate could not be confirmed: the ICUMS fee, withholding tax and any inspection or processing fees. Rates checked as of 2026-10-14.
This is an estimate, not an assessment
- The final duty and taxes are set by the destination customs authority, based on the HS code declared for your goods, the customs valuation and the exchange rate on the day of declaration.
- A product category covers many HS codes. Where their rates differ we show a range; your exact tariff line decides the figure.
- Excise, anti dumping duties, import bans, exemptions, preferential origin and product specific fees are not included.
- Port, terminal, agent, inspection and storage charges are not taxes and are not included.
- Rates were checked against the sources listed below on the date shown. Taxes change; if a source and this page differ, the source is right.
How import duty is worked out
- Customs value. Most countries here charge duty on the CIF value: goods plus freight and insurance to the port. South Africa uses the FOB value.
- Import duty. The tariff rate for the HS code, as a percentage of the customs value. West Africa uses the ECOWAS Common External Tariff (0, 5, 10, 20 or 35%); Kenya and Tanzania use the East African Community tariff.
- Levies. Small percentages for regional bodies, statistics or port development, usually on the customs value.
- VAT. Charged last, on the customs value plus duty and most levies, so it is the biggest line after duty.
Our Ghana customs duty guide walks through a full example, and the customs documents checklist covers the invoice details that keep your HS code and value accepted.
